Description

A couple of nights ago I captured this image of the central region of a much larger nebula complex. The Heart Nebula (IC 1805) is an emission nebula 7500 light years away in the constellation Cassiopeia. This is a narrowband image of the mainly glowing ionized hydrogen gas, but the nebula is also made up of ionized oxygen and sulfur gasses which are responsible for the blue and orange colors seen.
